Just a black screen. I tried disabling all of my mods, verifying files, and restarting my laptop, but after all this it still doesn't work. For the record, they're on the other side of the US and there's a lot of distance between us if that helps (since it's a local game i'm trying to join, maybe its a matter of connectivity?).
